Original Item: Only One Available.The Schutzpolizei des Reiches was the State (Reich) protection police of Wartime Germany, a branch of the Ordnungspolizei. Schutzpolizei is the German name for a uniformed police force.
 
The Schutzpolizei des Reiches was the uniformed police of most cities and large towns. State police departments were in charge of protection police, criminal investigation divisions (Kripo, short for Kriminalpolizei), and administrative police. The state protection police comprised a patrol branch, barracked police, traffic police, water police, mounted police, police communications units, and police aviation. Policemen had to have previous military service, good physical and mental health, be of Aryan descent, be members of the NSDAP and also members of the SS. Policemen were promoted according to a regulated career system. Promotion for officers was determined by merit and seniority. Pay for policemen was higher than the average industrial worker and was more in line with the average privately employed white-collar worker.
 
This Schutzpolizei tunic is made of fine quality police-green wool gabardine trikot, detachable shoulder boards and machine sewn collar tabs on a grass-green wool/felt base (this color was used for  “Schutzpolizei”). Above the left breast pocket is a ribbon for the Social Welfare Medal.The left sleeve is decorated with a police officer’s embroidered eagle. The interior is fully lined in olive-green cotton, with various stampings, one with a year, 1943. The factory stamp is faded and unable to be read. All pebbled buttons are still present, as well as the belt hooks. The tunic also has a “buttonhole” ribbon for a 2nd Class War Merit Cross and is nicely hand stitched to the uniform in the correct fashion and location. The right sleeve, on the forearm location is a Oberschutze Wool Rank Pip Patch indicating that this officer was a senior rifleman.
 
Overall condition on this tunic is excellent with no noticeable damage or moth marks. This is a great example of a genuine WWII German Police Officer’s uniform!
